A crew day of forestry mulching covers anywhere from a third of an acre to an acre and a half depending on what is on the ground, so a number built on acres alone is a guess. The tool weights the factors that actually move production and returns a range, a crew-day screen, a method screen and a site-review level. It is a planning range, not a quote: it has not seen your access route, your boundary, the wet ground, the rock or the largest stem, and it does not verify permits, wetlands, utilities or feasibility. 01Is the calculator result a quote?

No. It is a planning range built from the assumptions you enter. It has not seen your access route, boundary, wet ground, rock or largest stem, and it does not verify permits, wetlands, utilities or feasibility. A site review does that and produces the actual price.

02Why is the range so wide?

Because a crew day of mulching covers anywhere from a third of an acre to an acre and a half depending on what is on the ground. Until the site is seen, the honest output is a range, not a point — a narrow number this early would be a false precision.

03What single input matters most?

The largest stem in the work area. It decides which machine comes and how many passes the work takes, and it moves the number more than the acreage does. If you measure one thing before using the calculator, measure that.

04Does acreage drive the price?

Less than people expect. Density, stem size, slope, access and finish drive production; acreage only sets how many production-hours of that you need. Two one-acre jobs can differ by a factor of three or more.

05What does the crew-day screen mean?

It is an estimate of how many machine-days the work represents, which is the real unit clearing is priced in. It is a screen, not a schedule commitment — the site review confirms it.

06What does the method screen tell me?

Which approach your inputs point toward — forestry mulching, a brush-hogging or light-mulching screen, a mixed-method or tree-work review, a specialist steep-terrain review, or a species-specific plan for knotweed. It is a starting point for the conversation, not a final method.

07Why does it ask about slope and access separately?

Because they limit the job in different ways. Slope limits what the machine can safely do; access limits whether the right machine can get there at all. A perfect machine for the work is no use if it cannot reach or turn on the site.

08Does the calculator store what I enter?

No. It runs entirely in your browser. The numbers stay in the page and appear in a shareable link only if you choose to copy one. Nothing is sent to us unless you submit a site assessment request.

09Can I share my calculator result?

Yes — copy the calculator link and the inputs travel in the URL, so anyone opening it sees the same result. You can also download a plain-text summary to attach to a request.

10Why does it flag "site review recommended" or "required"?

Extreme slope, difficult access or oversize stems move a project from "recommended before quote" to "required before feasibility", because those are the conditions where a photo-based range is most likely to be wrong and where safety has to be assessed in person.

11Does the range include permits, hauling or stump removal?

The base range is the clearing pass. Hauling, stump removal, excavation, erosion control and permits are separate scopes with their own costs, some of which the calculator lets you add and some of which only a site review can price.

12What should I do with the result?

Use it to decide whether the project is the size you thought, then send a site assessment request with the summary and marked photos. The range answers "roughly how big is this"; the site review answers "what will it actually cost".
