04What is the "next-use test"?

Asking what the ground has to support after the crew leaves — walkable, mowable, buildable, driveable, visible — before choosing a method. The next use determines corridor width, retained vegetation, finish and follow-up, so it comes before "how many acres".

05Should I get a survey before clearing?

Wherever the boundary is uncertain, disputed, or within the width of the machine, yes. Clearing across a line is a trespass with multiplied statutory damages, and brush is exactly where old lines get lost. A survey is cheaper than a timber-trespass claim.

06What belongs in the exclusions of a scope?

Everything the clearing pass does not do: stump removal, grading, drainage, technical tree work, permits, restoration and maintenance. Naming them as exclusions is what keeps them from being assumed into the price and then disputed.

07How do I describe the finish I want?

In measurements, not adjectives. Replace "clean" with a maximum stump height and mulch depth, "passable" with a width and overhead clearance, "leave the big trees" with a flagged list. The library's table pairs each vague phrase with its measurable version.
