Ferrisburgh ties erosion review to slope and setback edges

A Ferrisburgh clearing plan can trigger its erosion-control requirement without being a large acreage project. The cited section 5.33 applies to disturbance on slopes of 15 percent or more and at the edge of specified regulatory setbacks. Ask the Town to identify the applicable setback on the drawing before the contractor treats its edge as an available track or processing location.

For a hypothetical Ferrisburgh grade, 15 feet of rise over 100 horizontal feet is 15 percent. The cited finished-slope maximum of 50 percent is a different test: one vertical foot over two horizontal feet. Neither is a safe-machine rating.

Have the designer and operator address those separate questions rather than taking the larger finished-grade figure as permission to operate there.

Ferrisburgh clearing quantities and the accepted finish

Ferrisburgh’s cited excavation provision also requires fencing for slopes over 40 percent. If the clearing price includes digging out roots or cutting a bank, identify where that requirement may apply and who supplies the protection. A vegetation-only quote does not establish the cost of finishing an excavation.

For a field-edge project in Ferrisburgh, keep the cutting limit, equipment route and proposed drainage unchanged unless the Town approves a revision where needed. Write down where chips and larger wood remain and how exposed ground will be stabilized. Ask about the current adopted text before relying on the linked 2020 bylaw for a new application.
